Istanbul Sewerage Project was built in three stages, on both shores of the Golden Horn and Western shore of the Bosphorus. A total of 19,720 meters of circular section tunnels were bored in varying diameters of 2400 to 3200 mm. Full face drilling, road header excavation and pipe jacking techniques were used as required by the prevailing soil conditions.
The project also required construction of egg shape branch tunnels, branch collectors, shafts, manhole chambers, sea discharge outlets overflow chambers, manholes, box culvert and piping.
