Great Man Made River Poject, Sarir-Sirt-Tazerbo External Cathodic Protection Works

Key features of Work Scope:
The project was the installation of cathodic protection system against corrosion of the 4 m diameter pre-stressed concrete pipe line conveying drinkable water from Libyan Desert to seashore.
The works consisted of installation of 50.826 zinc anodes with their connections to the header cable, installation of 930 Control Boxes to the manholes on the pipe route and laying of 539.484 m of header cable.
The length of the portion protected was about 300 km and the location of the project was between Ajdabiya and Sarir.

The scope of work consisted of:
   · Supply and mobilization of mobile camp facilities,
   · Drilling of 50.826 nos 8,9m holes, installation of zinc anodes and placing of chemical backfill,
   · Laying of 539.484 m header cable, including opening of 1,5 m wide, 1,5m deep trench, laying sand bedding, laying the cable, laying the sand cover, and backfilling the rest with the existing material and compaction,
   · Connecting the anodes to the header cable and encapsulating them,
   · Installation of 930 nos control boxes and their stud welding works,
   · Performance of all tests regarding these works.
